Anyone play out here?
I am interested in this area as well. I am planning a trip to NC in the next few weeks. So any pitches in the NC, SC, or VA areas??
In that area I can recommend Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC. Savannah has a small but beautiful waterfront parkland right along the Savannah River which runs thru the heart of the old town. The area in general is extremely touristic and developed, and very well known in advance by the type of tourist that loves exploring a place like Savannah (which has something of a reputation for being quirky or weird. Well deserved I should point out.) And because it is so well known there are City programs planned throughout the year, and especially on weekends. The first place to check out is the Waterfront Business Association office, which is who schedules the events and sometimes hires buskers for special events. Otherwise, the waterfront is pretty open for visiting buskers.
Charleston is even nicer. The parkland next to the river is amazing: much bigger than Savannah and it has better attractions. For example, there is a large pier at the busiest end of the park which attracts hundreds of strollers; sitting 20 yards from the base of the pier is a large fountain which attracts children by the dozens in the heat of the summer as they play in the water. And where there are children there are parent$. Need I say more? Plus, the famous Charleston flea market is just 3 minutes walking from the pier. Read that: THOUSANDS of tourists in close proximity.
And both cities are situated near some very nice beaches and summer resort centers simply heaving with tourists throughout the hottest months.
Sorry that I can't help with the other places you asked about...

I ran across a new mall in NC. Its called the Streets of South Point. Its in Durham, and its an inside mall, and outside mall. The outside part is what is called the streets. The have 3 fountains along the street. It was not hard to gather a croud of 75-100 people.
This mall has been open for only 6 weeks, and it attracts many many people. If I lived closer I would make South Point a regular stop.
If anyone is interested in performing or getting more info contact Anthony C Caporale 919-490-8603 or you can email him acaporale@theatrefestival.org
The do have a few rules, so you can't just go and set up. Its really safe, and a great place thats friendly to street performers. What more could you ask for?
