Hey all,
I'm going to be heading out to try Venice beach in a couple weeks and was wondering if you all can give me any information or tips for this pitch. Do I need a permit? Any rules that I should know before I get out there? Best times and days to try to be out there? and most any other info would be much appreciated.
I am also going to be moving up to SF in September so I was wondering on pitches out there. How do you get onto performing at Pier 39? Is there many other pitches out there to hit that you don't need a permit for? Any other info here would also be much appreciated. Thanks all.

Daniel.

I found it interesting when I heard that it is a tough gig if you are a singer because your sound dissipates quickly and washes out to sea.

Venice Beach is crazy, I didn't even try it, but no permit is needed, and there are plenty of people who can pull it off. Santa Monica 3rd st. was cool only because there arn't any other jugglers there, but you can't use anything dangerous and you have to follow a bunch of rules and buy a permit.
For Pier 39 you have to audition to get into the little union type deal, but there is a spot on the warf that's open, just get in line. Talk to a pier 39 performer to find out the audition info for that spot.

As far as any other info, you should just show up and find out for yourself, it's the only way you will really understand what's going on.

Hi
Peir 39 is a terrible pitch now, theres a much better spot at pier 41 at the circle, but you don't need to audition just work it out with the other dudes there.

Venice is OK but full of merchants. Watch out for tarot readers who try to crowd you out and a crazy broad who will try to bust up your audiance. Locals are upsety with the amount of noise. I find that Venice beach and Santa Monica pier are both full of merchants. You can get a pitch either site, but showup very early.
