I took my permit out to perform at 3rd Street Promenade in SantaMonica. It rocked. I didn't do any shows. Was shut down from the beginning by monitors. They told me I couldn't use my stove which was approved when I applied for the permit.
I'll be asking for my 37 dollars back from them.
If you have a show that involves danger (including a cigarette lighter or a toothpick) don't go to 3rd street.
To voice your concern about inconsistencies in the law or to request a permit that could possibly work, email the license office:
license@ci.santa-monica.ca.us
I think they should define in their code more clearly what fire safety hazards are. A contained butane catering stove should not be feared.
