I was looking at the sight and the first picture in the first slide show shows the case of a juggler and a black cat is lying on top of it. This makes me think yes.

the picture in the slideshow is an older one (last year) . I am looking to find someone who might have seen him recently.

Hrm.

So, how many of us would it take to rent a storefront and book street performers year-round for a cut of the hat to pay rent?

Then we're a merchant, and they can't do squat.

Screw St. Augustine!! Hats were mediocre and the store owners where unfriendly.
They arrested several of us.
Myself, Jeff Mason and others. Although I have been through there just to show that they didn't scare me off.
Jeff worked by the Columbia and I worked either the park next to him or just up the street where St. George gets wider.

Good luck there

I'm totally serious. How cheap can we get a storefront?

It is possible to work St Augustine, if you contact the arts council and work with them to promote your show. The legal hat pass area is the park, a little off the main drag, but a good size for circle shows. We've done two or three appearances there where we did two shows, one day, and promoted the shows through connections in town. They were fun, solid shows, people came specifically to see us, and we weren't hassled by anyone in police or city hall. If you have a solid, professional, family-friendly circle show, and you want to be put in touch with the people who helped us, just holler and I will pass you along to the right people. We do well as a "festival-style" rather than "street-style" show - lots of action and not a whole lot of gimme-money-gimme-money or otherwise hectoring the audience.
