I just turned 20. I'm quitting my job as a cook at a nice resteraunt so that I can take to the road and be a street juggler for a while.
I've had a lot of training. Mime with Tony Montanaro, Clown with Avner, Advanced juggling with Blink, bufoon at Dell' Arte, and a year at Circomedia Circus School in Bristol England. O yea, and I went to motion fest west '02, and the last two IJA festivals.
After all that I still suck, mostly as a lack of actual experience. I have a show, it just needs work.
My first stop in April will probably be Venice Beach (A playboy model who lives there told me I should go there, so I will). When the weather in boulder gets nice I want to go there for the summer b/c it's close (10 hours) to home.
O yea, NO. I have no plans on going to college.

I've been offered a possible managment position as a cook in a sorority here in town. It will pay a lot and plenty of perks, (you know what I mean). this will push my leaving town date back a month and a half, which is bad. I don't want to be a cook, I want to be a juggler.
I said that I would take it if the guy gets the contract, I mean shit! I'm 20 years old, how could I pass up a job as the guy who feeds the sorority chicks? The good news is that I will have the whole summer off to perform in Boulder, and several long breaks during the school year. This is a really good job for someone my age, 20, to be offered.
My other jobs havn't been too bad latley either. The waitresses at the resteraunt I work at now have been going nuts. Two of them are taking me out dancing tomorrow, one of them is taking me to a strip club this week-end at the lake (way out of town, over night trip), anouther one had her friends tell me that she wants to just flat out sleep with me, and others are just throwing off all kinds of hormonal signals. They are all hot and they all have boyfriends, but don't seem to care. I've seen their boyfriends, I think I could outrun them, and I know I have a faster car. I really don't know what to do, it's kind of scary.
I can't wait to start doing street shows full time.

I called the guy today and told him I didn't want the job. I'd rather perform than cook.

Ethan,
I'm sure you got your feet wet in New Orleans. I did on Bourbon ST.

Your post is so funny. If you had any chicks, I don't think you'd talk about it so much.

Thanks Scot, I'm glad you think I'm funny. I'm allways trying to be funny. You are right though, I should know when to keep my mouth shut.

It's been allmost exactly a year since I walked out my front door to be a full time performer.... I'm still getting my feet wet, but it's starting to come together. It's been a very exciting year, the lifestyle is allmost more fun than performing is.
Thank you P.Net!

Bravo.

I'm nearly 18, myself, and I'm dealing with choices (jobs, colleges, performing)...it's encouraging to hear such good things from you. Congratulations, and maybe I'll see you on the street someday.

Heh.

Well, I'm 24 and my troupemate, Ivan, is over 30. We both went the route of getting degrees. I've got a Physics degree with a minor in English, he's got a double degree in Psychology and Sociology. And we STILL ended up quitting our dayjobs and performing.

After a few years of part-time performing, Ash Circle is now a pro troupe featuring suckers with no dayjobs and loving it.

We'll see how long the fun lasts.

Cheers,

Rick aka Loki
