So I booked Orangeville.
Seems they only want to spring for one nights hotel.
Is it a decent gig or is this a sign of things to come?
Oh and who else is gonna be there?

I was told that it's not a huge earner but can be ok.
A festival should at least supply accom. for the night before you start work and the nights that you work. It's the least they can do to ensure a well rested fresh perfomer rather than a tired and hurried 1.

It blew meaty chunks. I did it fiveish years ago. I've been told it has gotten better, it sure had plenty of room to improve. There were "local" acts allowed on the pitch, and some charismatic preacher, literally, worked it as well. I did it with Pete and Andrea, and Hawaii 2 oh. Mike kept me laughing continually, at the overarching lameness of it. It was pretty much lame on lame, slathered with lame, and a side of lame.

Enjoy!

Uh oh, sounds like Chicago
Well the per diem is ok. I'll just set my sites low.

Mike kept us laughing last year too... by driving back to TO for sex and getting his car busted into...

I've done it twice... 2002 & 2004... It's ok... not massive hats, but the retainer is ok.

I could summarize the gig by describing how someone set their dog on me while I was performing at the sponsors schmooz, indoors at a pub... but then I'd have to also mention that the dog was actually one of the acts, and was owned by the mc.

I also remember having a couple of volunteers drop in to visit us at the hotel, wearing their pajamas.

So, I guess it depends what you consider to be a "Good Festival".

But then I have iddi biddi expectations.
The retainer was good, the crowds are middle canada. The time is about 50 years BC, (before contraception) lots of young kids, then a gap in the population, then lots of solo mums.
The korean hotel is funky and you MUST return the TV remotes. I enjoyed it even though I had lyme disease and a raging temp.
The sillies are in the admin mix there somewhere so it's got that going for it.
Its a small canadian burb trying hard to give the community something to celebrate and it does well at it. It used to book too many acts and now focuses on a smaller number of pro's so that it can pay better.
There was a stage show indoors on the day after last year.
Its nothing to be scared of.
