I've heard some good things about Dublin. How is the scene there? Are there pitches I would need to audition for? Permits? Info and advice from anyone who lives there or has been there recently would be happily received.

I don't know what your gig is, but I've spent some time busking there. Grafton street is hit and miss. No permit is required. Sometimes the police are accomodating, other times they are not. Temple Bar is another area worth pursuing. It has the same rules as Grafton Street (which is none). I think generally, the police don't like to see really big edges. If you do a smaller show, they're more busker friendly.
Dubliners are very open to street performing.

That's my two cents.

Thanks, Dan. I do a circle show, so I don't really have a choice about the edge -- it has to be fairly big.

Anyone know just how much room there is? I've worked pitches where a circle show could just squeak in -- Ottawa, for instance, and usually the cops behave in the way you describe. You've gotta keep pulling them in, because if the crowd starts to block traffic, the cops will shut you down. I don't mind dealing with that.

Contact temple bar properties if you want to work it. "They aren't allowed passing of the hat." This I've been told repeatly is "illegal" in Ireland, though I only know of one person who's been arrested for it. Temple Bar supposedly will provide accomedtion, and pay a weekly fee. (summer only) Ask Sharon as well she was here, just before i arrived. Grafton is a beautiful pitch (pedestran mall), but the local police will spend most of time shutting you down. I came here after Scotland, and haven't gotten to Africa yet. Joys of food and accomedation for 2, and only one performing. In short Temple bar is possible, and possiblly good if booked ahead. Contact me if you want contact info for them. This information mostly applies to circle shows. Walk-bys/statues/musios seem to do fine here. However, I've noticed it's the americains I'm insulting who're filling my hat. The dubliners themselves don't tip well. Not on the street or in the bars.

dublin's fine to pass the hat if you dont ask the people for money.
selling cds is okay if you do not show them but you have a sign saying ""CD's available on request""
now you are NOT selling, the other guy is buying. no laws against that!
this works in the UK too.

Just a little update on Dublin Busking.

Temple Bar Square has become much smaller than it was a few months ago. the reason for this is that the cafe's on the square expanded their outside seating areas.

Very annoying. tho it may be big enough for some to busk :)
