Solo Show

Perhaps this is a bit odd- but I work well with partners - and Im not trying to sound full of myself by saying Im hilarious- but whenever I do a show with a partner I am way better than when I doa show with my self- by this I mean Im a lot funnier- and the jokes just roll off my tounge like there is no tomorrow- the problem is when I do a solo show I dont have anyone to go off of - now I know in the perfect situation I would use the audience to go off of but for some reason I cant get it to work - how can I get my solo show up to the same level as my show with my two partners?

As a side note I would like to say its SOO much easier to come up with stuff for a two person show since there is SOO much more to do - with a solo show its so much harder to come up with bits and skits-

Something that could work is try relating to some inanimate thing (a prop, a rubbish bin, a pole, a dead monkey) as your partner, endowing it with somesort of personality and justification for not speaking/moving/doing machetes on rola bola. So you're always having to pick up the slack for your stupid/lazy/strong silent type partner. It will probably only work if your character is of the stupid persuasion otherwise the reality will just be skewed however it's a nice way to not feel alone in the circle yet not have to split the money.

It was the entire motor behind my 1st street show ever. It almost worked...

Do stock material. Use it as filler. Then start throwing it out. I hate to say it, but it's a way to get there.
Also, stand around and talk to people who pass by. Just wave and say hi to everyone and smile, and say whatever comes to mind. It's good practice. I call it personality practice. I'll stand around with my friends (or alone) on the Pearl St. Mall and practice some stupid trick like jumping over a bench while juggling, and try to talk to anybody who walks by. A lot of people make fun of the audience; I tend to make fun of myself, or I just flirt with everyone. Anyway, it might help you develope your performing skills.
