Here I am in Orlando, I'm holding a stilt workshop,1/2/3/ and a clown thingy, (character development) 6/7/8.
I havn't been into town yet and so far its just an unending strip mall. Its scary and I don't scare easy.
My questions are, Is there anywhere to work in these parts where you dont have to wear an animal suit?
Apparently its usually pretty busy round here but presently there are only 7 tourists in florida so I'm kind of looking for where the locals hang out.
I realise given my sociopolitical outbursts and my general non sunny disposition that there may be some who see my tripping round america whilst spewing viterol a tad hippocritical.I can only say that americans are a fun loving generious bunch who own the best toys on the planet and that you travel much further in the belly of the beast than you could scampering after it nipping at its heels.
Any clues as to lurk friendly Orlando/florida?
Thank you, have a nice day, missing you already.

Martin,

One of the best things about the US is that you can be as vocal as you want, bitch about US affairs, come here to join in the rat race, and stuff your pockets as you go! No apologies necessary, nor any expected. Good or bad, it's the "American way."

I am under the impression that Church Street Station has closed down, but it used to be that there was good action to be had there, though all acts needed to be OK'd through management. Stay away of any facility that has the mouse logo on it, unless you have been cleared by the mouse-machine itself. Mr. M doesn't take kindly to uninvited guests.

Tampa is a little over an hour away, so that might be a place to inquire about as well. At least it is on the Gulf beach, and you might find better pickings around the beach this time of year.

Ah yes, the great un-ending cement strip. It's actually not too bad if you can take the heat and red-necks.
I own a house in St Petersburg, which is just west, over the Tamapa Bay. I'd ask you to stay and check things out, but I'm living in Michigan currently.
Tampa is a no scene for street. There is Ybor city, but most street performers cant cope with the long unending array of Bars and Dance clubs and drunk twenty somethings.
You could go over to Clearwater to the Clearwater peir, on the gulf side (just over the Tampa bay bridge). I havent looked into it in 5 years, because it seemed like a lame attempt to carve out a Key West peir scene.
Good luck

Just too fill you all in on current Orlando affairs ... Church St Station has closed its doors too street performers, the reason for this is that as some of there production shows finished the people would exit the bar too go across the street to the next show but the street performers would catch the crowd and all the shows began to suffer. With the cast, tech costum costs they decided to stop all street because they began to lose bar takes. I have this info direct from the main Church Street booker direct. I aproached him back in Febuary of this year. There was also the Mercardo Center but that has also stoped street I believe, tho im not that sure on this one.

With regards to Clearwater pier 60, yes it is a workable pitch but not great. Most of us based here in Key west have tried it with not great success. To the pitch from Orlando its about 2 and a half hours drive. Hope this info helps ...

Thanks everyone for hints and suggestions.
What helpful little website rascals we are.
I went to church street on friday daytime to scope it out and it looked good in areas, the lower half which has the oldest hotel in town is empty and awaiting distruction, further up was ok but come the night time as much as I love my job, no thank you. Empty with hooterish type woman glazed enthusiasms rushing at the odd straggler to throw themselves like commandos over live granades in a playcenter in furious attempts to issue drinking cards to various establishments.
Normally i do like a drink and seem subliminally attracted to wombs but it just didn't sit right so i went home.
I could try further afield but the workshops are going well so i think I'll make a few phone calls to sleazy cigar smoking reptiles in offices to introduce myself and for the entertainment, finish the classes and head back to connecticut.
To all sleazy cigar smoking reptiles reading this...i don't mean you.
Thanks again, may your disney glands grow large and cumbersome and may the cheese be with you.
