is there any restrictions on this?

as far as I knew, performers had to have permits in the city, but I otherwise learned on here.

I don't believe I've seen any fire breathing/play in New Orleans.. so I'm wondering if it is allowed or not.

I'm going to town there in a week for some other business and thought I would do a little performing. Any other restrictions the performers have would be appreciated also.

Well you are not really allowed to do fire in New Orleans but... You can get away with it. Just look out for the police. They will probably give you a warning before they throw you in the slammer(Im not kidding).
As far as other restrictions, there are rules like no shows after 8:00pm and no shows in front of the church while services are going on. If you go there tell Chris that I said hello. Dont tell him I told you to do fire though.

Who Is Chris? We could tell you, but then we'd have to kill you! (Or you could look near the cathedral for the guy juggling fire and bowling balls -- though probably not in that order -- and sweating ALOT.) Tell him Chance sent you... it's good for two free front row tickets. Really.

i've been in louisianna for the past ten weeks doing the ren. fest. out in hammond & some club gigs in nola ~ i've seen some of the coolest & worst street ever in the span of this time...

worst ~ the magician who didn't back his tricks, so that when i was standing against the fence (facing st. louis cathedral) i could see the illusion behind everything! damn! i strive so hard to believe in magic!

best~ mr. bojangles on royal

the breakdancing rastfarians

and,

a GREAT uni-cycle/juggler/fire guy... i wanna know who he is - his comedy is excellent... cool hat pass... but, he's always so mobbed after his set... and, when i actually GO to the square to look for him... not there.

any ideas on this acerbic juggler's id?

btw ~ one of my magician friends has convinced me to branch out and do some street performing while i'm here... any nola specific tips? i've worked venice & 3d st. promanade in ca... so i'm not completely a baby ~ however, i'm mostly used to doing a 25-45 club set... all input would be appreciated.

thanx,
firegirl

I worked down there for a short stay about ten years ago. Permits were 65 bucks, and the cops were, believe it or not, pretty decent types. Crowds easy to come by, money tolerable. Daytimes were ok too. Jump in, the water's great. (Or it was then.)

Hey all,

I'll be in New Orleans from Jan. 10 - Jan.14.

If anyone knows of any trouble I could get into or would like to grab a brew and talk shop just let me know.
You can post here or e-mail me. I'll check both about once a day. You could also find me at Big Easy Magic on Dumaine St.

I look forward to meeting a couple of you and maybe seeing your shows!
