10 Things You Must Know To Get More Gigs and Succeed in Todays Economy

# 3: What Do You Want?

On the news, we can see thousands of jobs have been eliminated.
Corporations are cutting budgets everywhere - including entertainment.
Production shows are letting go of variety acts, cruise ships are cutting a
number of their entertainers or are cutting their salaries. Theme parks are
looking for more affordable guest shows. Many strong variety performers
are not employed right now and many more will become available pretty
soon.
The future prognosis is not very bright. All you need to do is turn on the TV
to see it. But, please do yourself a big favor…don’t watch. Instead, look
closely at where you are at this moment, and ask yourself:
What DO I want?
Is your goal to have steady work to earn a living or do you to desire to
headline your own show? Or maybe something else? Sometimes it’s not
easy to see BIG Picture… But one thing is for sure - You have to be clear
in your mind what you really want. Your future actions will be dictated
by that.

⇒ IF YOU WANT SOMETHING, BE PASSIONATE ABOUT IT.
PASSION GIVES ENERGY TO YOUR LIFE.

“If you want something that you don’t have, find out WHY you LOVE
WHAT YOU DON’T HAVE and WHY you HATE NOT HAVING WHAT
YOU WANT. When you combine those two thoughts, you will find the
energy to get off your seat and go get anything you want.”
-- Robert Kyosaki

Is your promo material updated?
Is your act desirable for your dream producer?
What should you change in your act to get the results that you want? Ask
your fellow performers to help you answer that question. Or if you are
seeking advice, you could go to forums. Here is a link for a very good
professional entertainers’ forum. http://www.performers.net/
How long has it been since you changed your costume or your music?
Are your costumes hip, retro, or modern style….but, most importantly, is it
fashionable. A great illustration of the need for a fashion makeover can be
found in the popular TV show, American Idol. If you watch the contestants
at their very first audition and compare the way they look when they reach
the finals, you will find an amazing difference. The show designers have
completely “upgraded” their look. They may correct their hair style a bit,
add some accessories, or give them a different brand of clothing. What is
interesting, is that they can completely make a contestant look more
fashionable while keeping them comfortable and letting their unique
personalities shine through. You can still be you and be more hip…and it is
a must for performers to find that balance.
Think about this…the most conservative and classiest costume of all,
the tuxedo, changes styles all the time! Shouldn’t you?
Look at fashion magazines like GQ and Vanity Fair. Sometimes, they have
awesome ideas for costumes.
