Move it along...

So I was working on the pitch and was told to move it along.
I figured at this time, it was due to blocking the sidewalk.

So I moved to a bigger pitch (about 20 feet away) to not
block the sidewalk and have been working off and on for
months. A couple of other guys have been hassled randomly,
for some reason I've been flying under the radar...until
last Friday.

A cop came up and told me that I can not do what i was doing.
Told me to do it somewhere else, not on his post. I imagine
these guys are told at random times to keep certain areas
clear...but...

So my question is...since this has been the second time I've
been moved from this area...should I ever venture there again?
Or should I just find another pitch?

I can imagine the same popo seeing me and getting ticked
now that he recognizes me.

What city? What are the local laws? How cool is the PD? How cool are the people who run the city? What other pitches are there? Is there a merchant who might want you to perform in front of their store?

Good questions...well the two times that Ive been moved I think they were cool about it. Some other guys even waited to ask questions as to why they can not perform there to no avail. But in both cases the officers seem cool...

But this is Times Square NY...

I am attempting to get the Alliance to help in working with some business partners to work some spots. I also here about a permit that or having a tax id on your person...

I ventured out again but was not told anything this day...but as I said above...perhaps familiarity will breed contempt...????

This is why I suggested maybe getting a store owner to welcome you as someone to increase foot traffic to their store. That way, when the cop comes down on you, you can tell them that you were invited to perform by the shop owner. The could score some points.

Some pertinent info

Here is some historical and more current info, including the name of a lawyer who apparently has been involved.
Sounds like your taking the right approach, i.e. being cautious, but not just giving up. I agree with the suggestion to find allies,,,sadly, we cannot necessarily depend on the protection of the First Amendment.
