Anyone could log in as Rumpelstiltskin if they knew his name and password... or if he used an internet cafe or borrowed computer and forgot to log OFF from his last post. If you don't log out after using an internet cafe or a borrowed computer, the next person to use the machine can continue posting with your user name. It's happened before.

Remember to LOG OUT if your're using a shared computer.

Jim

P.S. The good thing is that if someone posts using your name, YOU can just log back in and edit/delete the comments if you desire... so long as the username hijacker doesn't go in and mess with your preferences and password.

I'm honestly not pulling your leg...
as i don't have to go to internet cafe's
as i use an old chook computer.
I hadn't even checked P Net for a while...
since my last real post on the 23/10/03
Quite odd by crikey!
Unless it was from a friend's computer i used along time ago...
& they still have P Net on their clicking banner
& then they could play a joke on me.
Anyway cheeers for now!

Question

crikey rumple, it looks like somewhere in the big wide world where you touched down, somebody nicked your password. and now they are having fun trying to be you. just ask yourself..."who do i know, who most wants to be me?" and the answer will be staring ya in the pointy ol' nose.

The 2 postings in question also lack the jester icon beside the date.

Lurk

Its simple enough to work out
computer identity number.
ie (204.66.100.62)
cross referenced to members list.
Unless said prankster only uses internet cafe's
and that can be sourced to the city its coming from.
Or is 'spoofing' their number.
in which case you's have to conclude someone was going to disproportunate lengths to little end.
And that would narrow the field down to one.

I don't know much about with computers, but I do know that it isn't difficult to actually remotely use somebody elses computer to hide your own number and people will go to disproportionate lengths simply to see if they can.

And it is thanks to the millions of geeks whos research is disproportionate to the short term gain of pissing about with a computer that computers have evolved so disproportionately slow in real terms, but apparently hysterically fast to the casual observer.

Maybe, by pissing about with Rumples ID my life could be lengthened by 20 years. Maybe the frontiers of performance art could pushed back against the ever growing crowds at our gigs.

Perhaps I should just shut up for a while...

Perhaps....

Per....

P....

Bit subtle this one, so fucking subtle I'm not sure it was worth it really but here goes.

What wears wally? Deep debate?
Who's wally? He's my neighbours wally.
Why Wally? Why not wally.
"What's Wally?" Is how an ex pronounced "What! Swallow?!" in an effort not to dribble it out.

So to prove my point some bastard posed as me, while I was actually on line, and posted the last post.

Hmmmm!
