AirJair -
Have you got one yet? I went to the website and it lists it as an InferRed device. I'm worried that means you would need to point it towards the receiver ( I think radio waves are different).

Let me know once you have more info. I am waiting for the first reviews before I leap.

PS
I googled 'navipod' for reviews and here's what I got...

"Remote performance is on par with a typical IR remote control for your television or VCR. I had no problems operating the unit at a distance of up to 30 feet, with a clear line of sight to the receiver."

I doubt this will work during a show, sitting in your pocket. But let me know

Default Virtual Soundman

Hey folks...

Just wondering if the Virtual Soundman is still the prefered technology?

Does anything do the job better, faster, cheaper, cleaner...?

Thanks - kim

Default Remote for ipod

I posted this somewhere else a while back, but here it is again.

A radio frequency remote for your ipod exists...no need for a dumb ir remote.

it may not be as ideal and perfect as a virtual soundman...but for 40$ it is cheaper and effective for what you need to do.

the remote system is called the remote remote...it is the second generation model called remote remote II

http://www.engineeredaudio.com/ (here is the main website.)

http://www.engineeredaudio.com/products/remote2.html (this is the product link.)

it works on radio frequency much like VSM, you can keep it in your pocket and start/stop, skip tracks forward and back as well as adjust volume.

Thanks for that... looks interesting.
I'm pretty sure I want to stick with MiniDisc though...

So I'm wanting info on MD Remotes.

Also, the Virtual Soundman is available as either...
Virtual Soundman 7.5 Package - $1299
Virtual Soundman with Mini LED - $499

The 7.5 package comes with a sony MD player, but it seems to be a slightly different machine, with some extra features... (- Music Interrupt Circuit - Built in mini-monitor - Simple 2 cable hook-up - Instructional DVD - Rechargeable batter)

My question...
How useful are those extras? Does anybody have experience of both versions?

Thanks

i just bought what is called an i click, it is an attachment to the ipod(if you have one) it was 50 bucks and it has got a range of 60 ft. I set my cues as a playlist and the remote is small enough to palm.

Piggy

Ipod remote control sounds very appealling and decidedly cheap (compared to soundman).

This reviews a couple of leading brands, but has anyone used them in a performance context yet? One question I want answered is what is the response time like?

Default said it before and will again

Do not get the I-Click Infrared remote from apple.
For the same price, even a bit less I think, you are better off with the Remote Remote, it is a radio frequency and allows you to keep it in your pocket and cue up your sound without having to fumble with a IR remote pointing it at your ipod.

I have been using mine for a year and it has goine thru probably about 300 shows and is only now needing some attention...and that is because I dropped it and the casing cracked.

If you really want the IR model then go ahead...just my thoughts.

Default Clarifying

If you follow the link down far enough it is actually a comparison review of 6 different remotes for the Ipod. 3 are RF, I wouldn't bother with anything IR.

THere is the Abt Ijet, the Griffin Airclick, and the Engineered Audio Remote Remote 2. All of which seem capable of what most people would want. each has a simple 5 button remote (forward, back, play/pause and volume) the differences are in cost, range and remote design.

Hey,
I swear by the Showtech,
been using it for 9 years now, can't live without it.

I understand the budget problems we all have as acts,
but it's my career, and I want the best.
Showtech simply is, the best.

any questions, feel free to ask tcbanjo@yahoo.com
