Actually his illness sapped almost all of his cash, that's why his family put out that dvd.

On stage, Richard Pryor ruled. Hands down. No contest.
I never saw him live, but I remember seeing several of his concert films (especially Live on the Sunset Strip after his freebasing accident) and he was - pun intended - on fire. Pryor's genius was his ability to veer from laughter to tears and back again in a look, a phrase or just a word. He talked about visiting Africa, and how he was never going to use the N word again. Brilliant, brutally honest & scary stuff. You could hear a pin drop as the audience waited for the punchline... but he was serious. |
