Default Edinburgh Fringe - How nice is UK immigration?

In June I'll be flying in to London from Australia, and then doing the Fringe in August. So I'll have all my props.

I did the same in 2004, with all my props, and even told immigration that I was street performing at Edinburgh Fringe. They let me through no problem.

But there have been a few posts on here about how tough UK immigration is, and you shouldn't tell them you're performing, and you should post your props ahead, etc...

Was I just naive and lucky in 04? Or are they fine with Fringe street performers coming in on a tourist visa?
