USA FLORIDA...

I'm coming up to florida in begining of october with my girlfriend; staying a few weeks performing around, then buy a car and travel to mexico, guatemala, costa rica, always performing...
Any body can tell me if it's possible to buy and ensure a car in US if you are not resident?; October is OK to perform? any cheap place to stay?
All informations about piches where to perform in florida and on my way to mexico will be really wellcome.
Thanks to all,
Sebastian.

I've heard a lot of bad things about travelling Mexico, recently... Even for people just passing through. Do some more research on this trip before you undertake it.

Sebastian, the road from Florida to Mexico is VERY long.
Regarding working in Florida, you should of course speak with Dallas.

Default Foreget Florida!

Your either going to work in Clearwater where the hats are very small and the audiences are unappreciative or Key West where it' a screaming match and the performers are working to support their alcohol and drug habits. Avoid Florida at all costs!

If you do this good luck and have a GREAT TIME! sounds awesome. Just know that if you drive into Mexico, I'm pretty sure you'll have to purchase Mexico Auto Insurance, you may want to look into that. I was working a ship/ferry some years ago that went from Tampa, Florida to Mexico, and I think that was one of the issues that eventually ended the ship service.
All the best......

The hats in Clearwater are relatively small, but as for the audiences being unappreciative...

They have kept me busy, in a nice apartment, well fed and so much more, for over 15 years.
I love my "people"!!

If they were appreciative the hats wouldn't be so small.

If they were, they wouldn't fit your fat head.

Cool yehhh

ouahhh, sounds hard, but I am going any way, here in Italy it is not so easy neither. Working most of the time with hard audiences, so it should not change too much. I want to see how bad is the situation in Clearwater, and I think I can do it at Key West...I scream very load...
Any way I'm not planing to stay a long time, as soon as I can get a car I will start traveling west.
Thanks all for the tips.
Seb.

Default Clearwater

The ONLY saving grace in Clearwater is Dallas and his hospitality.

Default Clearwater and the Keys

I would not suggest going to Key West this year. The festival there has a cap on the number of performers. The street is good but you need a liscence and there is only a small window in which to get it. On top of these the price of living is really high and there is only half the work space at the festival due to construction. Unless you are what they call ays grandfather in their system, hang it up no room for you no matter how good you are. There are ten year old kids who play go fish that will keep any newcomer from getting a spot because somehow they got registered as performers. Plus it is often hard to for the crowds to differntiate between legit performers like Jeep and beggers allowed on the property by the organizers, like the guy that collects money to feed the cats. The number of crackheads claiming to be statues is pretty high as well. If you can manage to get in though the tips are pretty good.
Clearwater is actually pretty good. The festival there is not that bad. Dallas is cool and the people are at a beach so there is plenty of eye candy. Most of the money to be made there is at other events around the area. The news paper puts out a list of events on thursday each week. Crashing them is in a proffesional manor is very lucrative.

The license is for the street only in Key west. You apply in November any time and pick a specific date and time in the first two weeks of December to get it. It's good for a year and cost$100.00. You can work 24/ 7. At this time there is no charge to work at Mallory.

Thanks Jeep for your help in Key west. I hope next time I'll be able to stay longer. Now I am in Clearwater, but the place look dead. No one is performing here, nether Dallas. I spoke to Bob; he told me that everybody is gone, that the place will be good again for performing from next march...actually there is no tourist at all. I still have the car for ten more days, so I'll try to find out if there is any other spots around. If not, I'll travel directly to south america where I'm sure to find good workable spots at this time of the year. Since there is no big enouth spots in Miami, since Fort Lauderdale, palm beach and clearwater are dead, since you can't use amplification in Key West,Florida don't seem to be the right place at all...
