Default Favorite Acts.

(For the benefit of the Americans in the room I spelled "favorite" your way.)

I don't now if there's a thread on this already - I did a little searching, but it's 2 am, so I'm more-or-less bashing the keyboard with my face and the fact that words are even coming out are purely chanceasdndfk33((
You wouldn't believe how many times I tried this and how many chimps I have working on typewriters right now.

So, I want to know whose shows you LOVE!
Who's your favorite? (favourite)
Show me examples, if you have 'em!
Brag on the talents you look up to!

What's the best act/performer, in your mind?

Sincerely,
32(Rjh,h 95gfvvj)#)055.439!~

jeez, I saw this guy fillip in paris, I have already sung his praises somewhere on here, but we are pretty sheltered here in the deepest darkest africa so i only get to see real acts when i travel.

but i'v never seen a guy work a crowd with such charisma and doing a whole 45 minute show with a tiny little breifcase and some old toys. the whole show was in french but he had me laughing the whole show anyway... brilliant.

I'm weird, I guess. I love almost everyone's show. Gazzo is one of few who've made me laugh, hysterically.

About ten years ago there was a marienette puppeteer working the Ramblas in Barcelona. His name was Daniel. His puppet was the most incredible thing I have ever seen. It was maybe 14 inches high, and it had dozens of articulating joints. Most of the strings led back to his left hand, which was wearing an incredibly complicated multi-level controller. Just watching that hand during a performance was enough to make you dizzy. Daniel told me once that he had made the entire rig by hand.

The puppet was a frog playing a grand piano to a classical soundtrack. But during the performance a fly gets into the act, buzzing around the frogs face a few minutes into the routine. The fly eventually gets smashed by the lid of the piano. Very funny stuff.

Lurk

Dirty Fred

Nick N when he pulls one of those flawless 3 peakers.

Butterfly when he does a shit show, [ I like it when the pain and frustration is close to real]

Dado is a charmer, his show is all about making 'moments' and he's one of the better technicians at that.

Frazer, Is another guy who I'll watch forever feeling honored I already know the treat the audience is in for.

Hugo the argentinian panto. [where is he now?]

All time favorites Hoopal. It's like watching flawless open brain surgery by two savants.

Pee wee and Em when they cut loose. [which is often]

Livingspace, another genius with low self esteem but plenty of drive.

David Holder, because he lets the audience know he hates them and himself for needing them.

Rumple, because it's a cheap visit to another planet.
I could go on

Shows I can watch over and over...

Rob Torres
Dado
Frasier Hooper

Gamarjobat and The Invisible Men both blew me away the first few times I saw them with their duo visual gags and silent communication between partners.

The first three times I saw Pedro Tochas, I got weepy at a certain point in the show. Then, in subsequent shows, I started looking around the crowd and saw grown men wiping their eyes right along with me. That's awesome.

I only saw Pee Wee and Em once and I fell in love with both of them.

Never got to see the legendary Hoopal, but I did see Chris Gibbs and loved him.

Oh, and I figured Ewen was a given, for me. Considering I spent so much time creating art in his image.

I'm working on some docu stuff for Stand Up Eight Circus right now and wanted to mention Kimberly Olsen-Wheeler, of the Aerial Angels.
Pure skill, that woman. She doesn't do anything she can't be great at. For most people that would be a shame, but she happens to be capable of being great at a lot. She's like finding out your chocolate Easter bunny is solid, not hollow, and also made of that Lindor creamy truffle stuff.

I was actually just working with Kim. She's really a sweetheart... seriously, working with her was one of the few saving graces of working on that show.

Personally, I really like: Pete Sweet and the Handsome Little Devils, but I've never really been out to any of the festivals....

From this last summer. Che Cirque. Silent clowning show with good skills, set to good music. Very well polished into a near perfect show.
Popeyed, Fraser Hooper, Leandre, Livingspace all come to mind.
When I was just starting out, Lee Ross made an impression as did the Bman and Nick Nicholas, Pepe.

The mime Hugo people are mentioning now lives in Ibiza/Spain. Although I've hired him twice, I've yet to see him work. Let's just say it's not for lack of me trying ! I'd heard he was realy good.

Nikolai from Edmonton. I have seen him do everything from recite Shakespear with a volunteer to cut the head off of Barney in his show. Super energy!

Wait a minute... considering it's Jeep, I think that what I just said actually translates to "stop mixing your (weed) with dirtweed."
