Default Flying with batteries, the real deal

So, I made it around a bit with my taxi battery, but I finally got it taken from me by TSA in Auckland. However, the TSA guy was really cool and knowledgeable, and let me know how you CAN fly with them. He told me that if I had the original MSDS (material safety data sheet) from the manufacturer, with a matching model number to my battery, and it showed the battery's certification to fly on a plane (the nicer brands WILL have the certification, the TSA guy suggested Panasonic, but you can always shop around for a brand that does), then the battery could go. I need to buy a new battery once I get to melbourne, and that is the first thing I'm going to do, either buy one that has it, or forge it, and print it out, and runbber band the MSDS to the battery itself. This should solve the flying with battery problems, so that folks don't need to keep buying $60 batteries every country they fly to.

Oh, and the other one, in my checked baggage, that is duct-taped to my cannon, is still there. The other TSA dude told me on the sly that if it goes checked, especially if the flight is only domestic, that they'll probably never see it.

Dry cell batteries are allowed to fly, it is the gels and other batteries that are problems.

I fly with my crate all the time, it goes as a carry on, it goes thru the scanner, goes thru the swab test and then I am on my way.
It either fits in the overhead or under the seat.

If and when I have been asked about the internal workings of it, I have said it is a dry cell battery, which according to FAA and the airlines is permitted.

Australia/NZ may be different than the rest of the world, as it seems everyone who has problems and posts them here has been from the south pacific.

It sure is, Greg, and it has been serving me well. I actually tried to call you earlier, because Livingspace is going to help me build an amp like his, once I'm in Melbourne, and I wanted to know what I should do with the taxi, it's getting long in the tooth, pots need to be replaced, but it still works. The pots will cost maybe $10 AUD to fix.

And yes, it seems to be just down here that it happens, but it's happening to a LOT of people here. I figure, if you wind up having to buy a new battery, might as well get one with the MSDS, rubber band it to it, and never have to lose one again

i find it funny that my amp has made it to Australia and new zealand before me...
there is something wrong and ironic there... ) although one of my things was in Japan for years before I got over there, but I did get there too.

ummmm, If you are saying you do not want to bring it home, maybe smoeone wants to buy an amp while you are there, you can give me the money when you come back...or you can build me a cool new amp too....
;o)

Well, I'll do this, I'll sell it, and when I get back, you can decide, because Anthony is teaching me how, as we make it.

Never mind, I put 2 n 2 together and answered my own question.
I'd like to have his email address if you've got it.
