Default Waterloo Arts Festival 2010

Just wanted to thank everyone for making the 5th anniversary Waterloo Arts Festival a success, despite the bad weather.

"Big Ups" and "Mad Props" to:

Rob Williams
Dave Aiken aka CBG
Rick Kunst
Dana Fradkin
Rob Szabo
Mike Wood
Aythan Ross
Martin Ewen
Fraser Hooper
Andrew Elliott
and to a lesser extent Kim Potter.

Thanks again for the laughs.

Sarcastically,
your faithful leader,
Silly Phil

Lurk It's a unique festival

OK here's what went down.
Phil had done all the backend work miles before the event, the crew around him are an interesting family, our driver was a dude, there was a party where I got trashed and hid under the cover of the bubbling spapool and Andrew Elliott didn't sleep that night at all, acting like a overwound philosophical elmo doll and sleeping on a picnic bench after his set the next day. Frazer was a charmer and shared stories of his background in menswear, Mike Wood was his studied comic translucent self and lent us comfort in the evenings much like a nightlight.
Rick Kunst shared good clownstories which I'm always in the market for and Dana Fradkin was one of those intimidatingly intelligent, curious, cheerful women who awaken my usually remissive mammalian urge to reproduce. [that said, so do doors slamming].Rob Szabo played music I happily danced to and I scheduled around him to that end.
Aythan Ross was vaguely French and Jewish while being neither, Dave Aiken was a good hang and very good at being the one of us prepared to take a complete lack of momentum and fuel it with an hours high performance energy at the start of proceedings. Kim Potter was larconic and made me laugh and I'm a hard sell in that dept so props and thanks to him. Shelley Switzer was there throughout oozing smoosh which she's peerless at and Rob Williams was a man possessed, peppering the site with fake art and leading tour after tour.
Two peoples names I forget, Kim's bubbily friend who set up the massage tent and plowed through a few people and laughed a lot and the graceful acro woman from Toronto who came down to help and hang and made us look attractive via osmosis.
Colin was there constantly also, being all subterranean and bedrocky
My memory failings are my own.

The whole thing was an oasis and much appreciated. Thanks Phil and Val and all the team who put this thing together so well.
Oh and we each got personalised canvas zipable satchels with our names painted on them as treasures to take away. That was very cool.

Certainly a fine fine weekend...

A huge pleasure to have a producer create a venue, tickets, banner, Jewish/French technician and hustler and deliver an unsuspecting public through the canvas gates of the Vinyl Burns Experience - The Concert That Will Change Your Life (one way or the other).

To have someone who knows the craft, trust and invest in anyone's curious left field indulgence (especially mine) is a rare and valuable gift.

The hospitality was beautiful... the hotel, the packages, transport, bars, restaurants and home cooked BBQ spa party. Phil even flew a girl out from Alberta for me... (I'll be putting that on my rider from now on).

Thanks again Phil, Colin, Val and the giant list of people who continue to make this festival a gem.

Those people in Waterloo know how to give good festival. It's the way things should be done. It sounds like Vinyl really knocked one outta the park that day.

With great covet--
Lee

P.S. Martin--The graceful acro woman from Toronto must be Ana Shepherd.

It was a fine couple of days in that country field, for sure...

And when I got to Europe, I pushed an old lady out of a train.

So... you're only as good as your last gig.

Vinyl
Your humanitarian charity work serves as an inspiration to us all. A word of caution, no matter how wellmeaning the impulse, NEVER do this to the driver of the car you're in.
