Default When is it too late?

I'm new around these here parts and want to ask your candid, and yes, even cruel if need be opinion.

The wife and I have been talking seriously about doing some busking. We have never done it before as such. We are musicians and sing. We have done some bar/club work in the past and still play a weekly gig at church, but, of course, we don't do the stuff we have the most fun doing there. I can work a crowd and love doing it. Guess I'm a show off at heart.

We have done a bit of recording, which never went anywhere, but IMHO we aren't too bad. I doubt we'll ever be famous, but we won't puke a dog off a gut wagon either.

Now the catch is we are older than dirt. I'm 60 and the wife is 55. So are we just kidding ourselves? Is this something we should just put on the shelf with the hot air ballon around the world dream or what?

We have been working on putting an act together, but I don't want to waste time if we are being stupid. Whataya think?

Steve

Who cares how old you are? If you go out there, have fun and make a few dollars who's to say that it even matters?

I'd say it's more admirable that you and your wife are embarking on something new, exciting and yes, a little scary. Hats off to you guys..!

By circus terms, I didn't start doing hand to hand until I was 25, which might as well be "old as dirt" when you see 9 year old Russian kids doing one arms. Point is... Who cares? Do what you want to do and a have fun!!!!

Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement, Daniel! That was sort of my opinion, but then, I don't really know what I'm getting myself into.

Do it.

1) It's a hook that you're older - you are different than all the other people with guitars out there.

2) It's a hook that you're a couple. People like watching a couple do something together.

3) If you do it, in five years you'll have succeeded or failed. If you don't do it, you'll be five years older and wondering.

Have fun!

Allison

Thanks, Allison. Never thought of the hooks before. I thought the being old might be bad. I don't think so! It's better than dead!!

I lived nearly 20 yrs in MI, over by Grand Rapids. Daughter still lives in Muskegon. Nice to hear from someone around the old stomping grounds.

Butterfly The chosen one

I just turned 61 last week. I have been all over the world busking. I have taught the in's and out's of busking to thousands of eager beginners. So believe me when I tell you one thing.

You don't choose to be a busker... it chooses you.

And guess what?

You've been chosen.

Thanks for the encouragement, I think! :-) It almost sounds ominous! Like, "The busking spirit has descended on you!" Maybe that's not so bad.

You're only 61 !!
What the hell have you been retired for so long ? I'd happily perform until my seventies if I could.

You'll never really know unless you try. i'm not much of a writer myself, but I know that it's good to base humor on reality...so if you can come up with jokes about your age?
Ciao - kevin M - retired from busking but contemplating a comeback.
