Default so what

umm... what does Anna Nicole Smith have to do with what we do? Zilch. Sure, she was a celebrity and most people here on this forum would love to have some of that fame... but so what.

She made her way with the help of luck, a pretty face, big tits, good handlers, and some coniving shrewdness of her own. Great... but again, so what.

Anna Nicole has almost NOTHING to do with what we do, and sorry if I offend anyone but an RIP to Anna Nicole Smith does not really belong on a forum to dedicated to street performers and variety artists. A burlesque site-- maybe, cause she was once a stripper (but NOT a burlesque dance).

I really like this area of performers.net because it is an obituary section to people that amount to zero in the world of international celebrity, but none the less have made thousands of people happy by means of the craft they dedicate themselves to. People like you and me.

Let AOL news and all the tabloids do the obituarys of Anna Nicole, James Brown and Steve Irwin. Here, we can remember the passing of OUR brothers and sisters. Let's keep it that way.

I fully agree.
I once put up an obituary somewhere on p.net for Warren Zevon and have not yet searched for it and moved it here because, despite my undying appreciation for his work, he has not been and never was a true member our world.

This is a place for those that have truly participated in, contributed to or inspired street performance.
It is about genuine loss, not trite observations on the passing of plastic celebrities.

Pablo, if you go to the edit button you can kill this thread here.
Copy and paste it into a discussion thread in Blah, Blah, Blah.

While I have no problem with Anna, she simply does not fit into the same sentence as Wayne Condo, Doug Kelly, Delta Dave and Reg Bolton.

All the above were friends, others like Hunter, Art and James Brown were inspirational.

Darren Jones was murdered on his pitch and Ryder Jones on his way home.

It is sad that Anna died but surely this is "People" magazine stuff.

I for one would appreciate it Etiene if you didn't mention James Brown in the same grouping as Anna Nicole Smith.
James Brown was in fact one of the greatest entertainers of all time and deserves our respect and admiration (apart from the wife beating).
Many a performer has used his music as backing for their routines.

Default Yadda yadda yadda...

RE: "Anna Nicole has almost NOTHING to do with what we do..."

NOTHING? I don't think so.

She was a former stripper, and it can be argued that Stripping is a form of Busking.

Strippers are usually paid a meager wage or no wage, and expected to survive on tips from their audience.

But that's another can of beans, and not really the reason I started this thread. I was just appreciating a performer who fell from grace, and wishing her well on her next stage.

Yeah, not to pile on Pablo, but this is a little off topic for this forum.

Pablo, which one of these would you use to describe ANS:

"fellow entertainers, friends, community members and heros "

Do we really need this here?

Default Hmmm...

Given those options, I'm going to choose "fellow entertainer".

She was someone who - like the rest of us - courted the crowds and craved the attention.

Pile away.

Anything can be argued. Ask Jester... Although, he might disagree.

Stripping, pole/lap dancing ect is a form of entertainment.... depending on who's doing it of course.

Maybe this section of the forum should be split in two, have a part for entertainter's like ourselves and those who belong in

This is an obituary section. Why argue about the merits of people listed.

If Pablo wants to remember Anna Nicole then let him, the mere fact that a fellow street performer remembers is enough of a reason to list the tribute here.

Her name takes up just one line on the list. She was infamous in life and now bizzarely she has gatecrashed our Curtain Room and caused even more controversy. I can't help thinking she'd like that.

Jester

All right...

....she was a bimbo, a strumpet, she exposed her naked body and exploited the sexual weakness of empowered men thus undermining those women fighting to earn an honest living with their brains. She took drugs, lived a decadent life with more disposable income than all of us will ever know...

She didn't turn up in the rain at 8am so she could have her name pulled out of a hat for a pitch, she didn't learn to juggle ridiculous and delicate objects, or prestidigitate and engage bypassers on cold temperate days..

She was infamous and famous and beautiful and obscene all at the same time...

But she did do the one thing that we all agree should be done before you can be remembered in these hallowed rooms...

.....SHE DIED!

It's not what she did with her life that makes her obit out of place on this forum. It's what she didn't do :

Everybody dies. So what.

Not everybody is part of this community and when these pages get filled with celebrity drivvel it does nothing to reinforce who we are.

By changing the definition of what we do ("stripping is a form of busking") for the sole purpose of including a dead celeb amongst us trivialises our community.

If Pablo wants to remember Anna, than he can do so in blah, blah, blah --- which is EXACTLY what this thread has become.

Remembering friends and community members who have passed is important, and I think this area of the forum should be treated with a bit of reverence.

I would like to see this thread moved to blah blah blah so we can stop polluting this area with debate and babble.

There is a place for everything.

This forum is called PERFORMERS.NET THE ONLINE COMMUNITY FOR INTERNATIONAL VARIETY PERFORMERS.

NOT

PERFORMERS.NET THE online community for anyone and everyone.

A community is defined by who is in it and who is NOT in it. ANS is not and never was in our community. We are a generally inclusive group and if you have something to contribute than you are VERY welcome here. After all, performers are only the most visibily part of a huge network (community) of people.

But there is something called a DEFININTION (look it up).

Stripping is not busking, IT'S STRIPPING. I can't imagine strippers being invited to perform at a buskers festival-- because they are strippers and not buskers! A duck is not a swan and a tractor is not a car.

But hey, prove me wrong, Pixiejester.

Make a promo video of yourself taking off all your clothes with intent to arouse, send it to all the festivals and see if you get booked.

etienne

p.s. This thread is so stupid and I'm just as guilty of keeping this turd afloat. Jim, sorry about the mess. Can you please move this dung heap to BLAH BLAH BLAH?

Upon further research... you are correct. In fact it was PABLO who said that stripping was a form of busking.

So I extend that same "prove me wrong" to Pablo-- Hey Pablo, make a demo video of you taking it all off with intent to arouse and submit it to all the buskers festivals...

etienne

p.s. this thread still sucks.

p.p.s. It should be in BLAH BLAH BLAH

I prefered your original idea. I'd rather see Pixie Jester do the street stripping thank you.

I would seriously prefer this thread to be moved into "Blah, blah, blah."
I mean no disrespect for Anna Nicole and am, in fact, sort of attracted to or in admiration of her uninhibited celebration of her bizarre celebrity.
But I do wish this discussion was not here.
