I have a related question...

Does anyone know anything about the busking passes that the Edmonton Fringe sells?

The website says they go on sale August 16, but is that for the 2007 festival, or 2008?

The reason I am confused is because they seem to be different than the outdoor stage, which is what most of the street performances are I believe.

So it would make sense that you just pick one of the passes up and get to perform...which would be really nice.

Cause if it's for 2007, then I will likely be fooling around there a little bit...

Tyler-- I can't wait to see your show. Call the offices and ask what the deal is.

I'll be there this year with Aerial Angels on the outdoor stage and also busking.

The deal with the passes - they sell a limited number of passes, and you turn up the morning of and buy your pass for 2007. You can return the pass if you don't make enough money and leave at the end of the first day.

Busking passes are good for 30 minute circle show slots throughout the streets. You have to follow some rules - they are strict about fire and danger stuff.

I have no idea how bad the competition is for passes - anyone know? We figure on showing up early and hanging out until the office opens, as we're coming quite a long way and do need to end up with passes.

The outdoor stage is not busking - it's an application stage, where you've paid a fee and been picked in the lottery. Lottery was a month or two ago. The stage is scheduled and listed in the program, though the performers are passing the hat for their money. The advantage to being on a lotteried stage is that you're eligible for housing with volunteer hosts, as well as the aforementioned program listing.

See ya there!

The competition isn't that fierce. I know they sell passes in various categories.

Buskers - (Magicians, Musicians, anyone with a circle show)

special vendors - (Face painters, balloon artists)

I know they always say they only sell a certain number of passes, but I have never seen anyone turned away (That doesn't mean it hasn't happened..I just haven't seen it)

People start lining up as early as 3-4 am as security won't let anyone on grounds until that time.

Never done Saskatoon, but only because I'm usually booked at that time every year.

I'll see both the aerial angels and Mr. Craig in both Edmonton and Fort Mcmurray.

You can call the Edmonton Fringe Theater Adventure office at 780-448-9000 if you have any questions about the passes.

That's interesting.

I'm not sure if I'll be performing. I'm at Streetfest this year, and I'll be talking to a bunch of the people there, and trying to get a show written and stuff.

So assuming everying comes together nicely, I might make my street performance debut there this year.

As for the fire/dangerous stuff...that freaking sucks. Although it says somewhere on the website that you can get approval for "items that appear dangerous." Dunno if torches qualify...knives ought to tho.

The girls can't wait to see you, too - we all think you're adorable

How far are you driving? I just looked at the map and the last 274 miles to Ft Mc are all two-lane road....aughhhhh...

Hey Dan,

When I last saw you at the fringe, I thought you performed with torches...how did you manage that?

Hmm, I can't think of anything in Fort Mac. Lots of alcoholic university kids up there working...I dunno, but there's gotta be something interesting there.

Edmonton, Whyte Ave, lots of bars and stores. It's right beside the Fringe site, if that's where you're gonna be.

West Edmonton Mall, big, lots of stores, amusement park, water park.

Other than that...go see a movie or something haha.

But really, I don't know that much about Fort Mac. I've been there once or twice maybe when I was little.

Can't wait to see you guys... We'll have a blast.

The Palacious Strathcona Bistro and Motor Lodge, is the finest four walls and a mattress that $28 a night can buy.

I'm staying at some swanky joint down the road tha my associate booked for us... cos I'm not making money on this tour, so I might as well be comfortable.

As delightfully phrased, and poorly spelt as Kim's post was... it may have been somewhat misleading.

I believe he was describing the Strathcona Hotel, known to it's residents as the "Strath"

It's a dirty festering wank palace, but most of the (dirty festering) performers stay there, as it is cheap, 100 meters from the pitch, and is filled with other dirty festering buskers, with whome the good times tend to roll.

There's another Hotel just around the corner which is slightly more expensive, has a better spoken flavour of busker, and enjoys a cleaner brand of dirt.

I myself, don't trust clean dirt, so I will be staying at the Strath.

I am at one with the people.

Mr Potter will be over charged and poorly treated in his fancy pad... and will be out classed by their vacuous and sterile clientelle.

The Strathcona - it's the thinking man's dumpster.
