performers.net

Dear Faithful Visitor,
Since 1997, performers.net has been an entirely free service for entertainers around the world. Over the years, the site has grown and developed as a result of the participation of the performing community (that's you.) However, the reason the site exists in the first place is because of a guy named Jim. (That's me!)

I built performers.net from the ground up and I continue to maintain it almost daily. I've been covering the server costs of hosting this site out of my own pocket and I have put in countless hours for production and tech support over the past 7 years. I've never charged anyone a penny to visit or use the site. However, as it grows, I find myself putting more and more time (and money) into it and have been trying to think of a way to cover my costs.
These are some ideas I came up with:

• Banner Advertising can be profitable, but it's ugly and annoying.
• Pop-up Porn Ads would certainly add flavor, but I haven't gotten that desperate yet.
• Corporate sponsorship? Well... I'm still waiting to hear from Apple.

Then it hit me... About 75% of the performers using this site are buskers; so I thought I'd speak a language we can all understand...

I've decided to pass the hat.

As you all know, passing the hat is the coolest method of paying for anything. Try it all you like up front... Use it every day for free... If you like it/enjoy it/profit from it, all I ask is that you donate what it's worth to you.

You may send in a check, money order or drop a tip in my hat after watching my show. The amount you choose to donate (if anything) is up to you. (There are a few suggestions below.)
I can't offer anything in return except a warm "Thank You" and the promise I'll continue to work on the site. Your donation is simply a tip to me out of the goodness of your heart.

"So, how much should I give?"

Well, let me ask you: How much do you enjoy the site? How often do you visit? What would your life be like if performers.net wasn't here? Have you ever gotten a gig from the forums? How much spare money do you have lying around?

Here's what your donation says about you...

$10.00 says "Cool site. Keep up the good work, Jim."
$15.00 says "I visit the site often and find it very useful and/or entertaining."
$20.00 says "I visit almost every day and once even got a gig off the forums."
$25.00 says "I'm addicted to the forums and I'd like to buy you dinner and a beer."
$50.00 says "I'm addicted to the forums and I'd like to buy you 1 silicone ball."
$100.00 says "I'm Robert Nelson. Please don't tell Kumi I'm giving you money."

To make your contribution for the betterment of performers.net, send a check or money order to Jim. See address below:

I'd just like to say that my main reward for running this site has always been the satisfaction that it exists for the world's performing community to use. And that's really why I do it. I love that it's here. Your donations will ensure that it stays and continues to grow. Thanks again for your support. —Jim
